Liverpool’s own Molly McCann offered her service as a backup if Talia Santos suffers an injury in her scheduled title fight with Valentina Shevchenko in June.
“I’m not gonna be calling out Shevchenko, but if Taila Santos gets an injury or anything like that in June, I’m over here.” And just like that, there’s a pathway to Molly McCann vs Valentina Shevchenko.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, Molly made sure to say that if the phone rings for a battle with the Champion, she’d answer. Definitely a tall task for any unranked fighter, yet Molly’s latest run has fans behind her in a way few fighters are lucky enough to see.
Molly McCann Pathway to Valentina Shevchenko
McCann is no stranger to Championship gold, but she’s never neared the UFC crown. On The MMA Hour, Molly said she’d love to be like Michael Bisping and win the title in a similar fashion. The UK as a whole would love that as well. Championship aspirations have become a reality, so what does that mean for Molly?
Certainly a long shot, but the path has never been clearer for Molly. She has all the momentum and the world, and a little luck could net a lifetime opportunity. Cameras are on. Bright lights are shining. Just how bright is still to be determined.
Molly McCann vs Valentina Shevchenko is intriguing no matter how you look at it, so we’re here for it! Win, lose or draw, Molly will always have plenty of supporters screaming her name if the bout ever comes to be. Valentina would be a heavy favourite, but it’s not the size of the dog in the fight that matters. You can bet the bank on Molly showing up with thousands of fans directly behind her. That could potentially rattle even the best of the best, maybe even Valentina Shevchenko.
