Muhammad Mokaev is now a top 15 UFC flyweight ranked fighter following his win over Malcolm Gordon at UFC 280 this past Saturday.
In perhaps what wasn’t his cleanest performance, Mokaev was still able to control the fight over three rounds and secure the finish via armbar in the dying moments of the third round.
The fight started with both men exchanging ferociously, which resulted in Mokaev taking the fight to the mat, hunting for early submissions. Gordon shows his blackbelt experience and defends well, but the Brit comfortably wins the opening round.
In the second, Mokaev displayed some unique attacks that fans hadn’t seen in his game before. However, nothing landed with real significance. The fight takes place on the mat once again, with Mokaev controlling the positions and scoring. Gordon comes to life towards the end of the round, having a tired Mokaev in some danger and latches on to the neck, but thankfully for Mokaev, the bell rings.
In the third, Mokaev takes Gordon done once again. The Canadian was quick to find himself in a dominant position and landed an impactful suplex securing the back of Mokaev and attempting to bag himself a rear-naked choke. Mokaev shows his skill in defending well and eventually takes charge of the round, and he positions and snatches an armbar delivering fans the finish he promised.
Muhammad Mokaev is Ranked
Mokaev took to Twitter to announce the new number next to his name.
“boom! Top 15, I told you guy I will finish this guy and I will be in the rankings.” Mokaev Tweeted
Now (9-0) in MMA at 22 years old, the sky is truly the limit for Mokaev, who still chases the dream of becoming the youngest UFC champion in history.
