Manchester UFC fighter Muhammad Mokaev is looking to fight sooner than expected. Askar Askarov has had to withdraw from his anticipated bout against Alex Perez at UFC Long Island on July 16th and Mokaev thinks he is the man to replace him.
Already scheduled to face Charles Johnson just a week later at UFC London, the Dagestan-born fighter clearly foresees no problem in doing both. Muhammad Mokaev made an impression in his debut. He choked out the battle-tested Cody Durden in just 58 seconds, making an impression on many. 23-0 as an amateur and 6-0 as a professional makes Mokaev many people’s idea of a future flyweight champion. The 21-year-old would face his biggest test to date in Perez, although keen to prove he wasn’t joking, he showed texts to his manager.
7-2 under the UFC banner, Alex Perez has fought and beaten some of the division’s best. Currently ranked number seven, Mokaev would make a huge rankings leap should he fight and beat him. Khamzat Chimaev has set a precedent for this kind of thing. Muhammad Mokaev has many of the same traits as “Borz”, which could entice Dana White into making this one happen.
Do you think Mokaev should get a shot at Perez?
