Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal are set to rematch one another, but not in a mixed martial arts setting.
Fans are buzzing with excitement as reports circulate about a potential rematch between two MMA icons, Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz. However, this time around, the battleground won’t be the Octagon.
The two fighters, who soared to stardom in the UFC, engaged in an unforgettable clash at UFC 244 in 2019, headlining the historic 500th live event at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Masvidal secured the victory via TKO after a doctor’s stoppage due to a cut suffered by Diaz. The outcome left many clamoring for a rematch, but the prospects seemed dim following Diaz’s departure from the UFC.
Fast forward to the present, and it appears that the rematch is back on the table. Recent developments, including Masvidal hinting at a comeback from retirement, have led to Happy Punch reporting that a boxing match between the Miami standout and Diaz is in the works for March in Las Vegas. Remarkably, the UFC has reportedly given its blessing for Masvidal to step into the boxing ring.
Renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani has lent credibility to these reports, although an exact month for the bout remains unconfirmed at this time.
Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal Boxing Bout Set for March
If the stars align and the bout is indeed confirmed for 2024, Diaz will be seeking redemption and his first professional boxing victory, aiming to overturn the defeat he suffered at UFC 244.
Rewinding to their 2019 matchup, Masvidal was riding high on the momentum of consecutive knockout wins over Darren Till and Ben Askren, with the latter being the fastest KO in UFC history, clocking in at just five seconds. The showdown with Diaz, for the inaugural ‘BMF’ title, showcased Masvidal’s slick striking skills, resulting in a deep cut on Diaz’s face and a doctor’s intervention at the end of the third round.
Post-UFC, Diaz entered the boxing realm, facing YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a spirited contest that, despite ending in defeat, showcased his entertaining style. Meanwhile, Masvidal’s path took a different turn, encountering four consecutive losses before calling it quits at UFC 287 last April. Despite initially focusing on his role as a promoter, Masvidal has recently teased a return to action, sparking curiosity and anticipation among fans.
As the speculation surrounding the Diaz-Masvidal boxing match intensifies, we still await official confirmation, anticipating another chapter in the storied careers of these two global super stars.
