Former UFC star Nate Diaz will face Jake Paul in a boxing match in Dallas, Texas, on August 5th in his first fight since his UFC exit. Jake Paul has been pushing for the fight for some time and will finally get his wish on August 5th. Paul is looking to get back in the win column after his defeat to Tommy Fury back in February in Saudi Arabia.
Due to the bout taking place in the state of Texas, both fighters will be tested by the state commission and VADA, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. The Texas Commission did a test for marijuana and announced they would be testing both Diaz and Paul for the drug before their fight. Throughout his career, Diaz has been open about his marijuana usage, most notably smoking during his UFC 241 open workout.
Nate Diaz Has Request Denied
Diaz requested an exemption from the marijuana tests. However, this request got denied. It is not likely that this decision is going to scupper the fight going ahead. Diaz will probably just test positive and accept any sort of consequences, as they are unlikely to be too severe. Manager of the Stockton icon, Zach Rosenfield, had this to say “We will be working with VADA on testing prior to the fight and will be in compliance with all VADA rules, as well as the rules and regulations set forth by TDLR,” Quotes via Middle Easy.
Fellow marijuana smoker Sean O’Malley expressed his opinion on the decision on the Believe You Me Podcast, “Nate Diaz probably isn’t gonna give a f**k. He’ll probably fight, test positive, I don’t think Nate will care. If they don’t move it out of Texas, I doubt you are going to get Nate to quit smoking before his fight,” Quotes via Middle Easy
Do you think Nate Diaz will keep smoking and take the consequences that follow?
