Nate Diaz has teased his return to the UFC via a post on X that said, “I’ll be here f*ck 300,” with an image of the Las Vegas ‘Sphere’ attached.
During Saturday’s UFC broadcast, it was revealed that UFC 306 would take place at the Sphere. The newest Las Vegas attraction accommodates 18,600 people and is set to hold it’s first UFC event on 14th September.
The Return of Nate Diaz
Diaz became a free agent after his last fight in the UFC, which saw him submit Tony Ferguson in the fourth round at UFC 279.
Almost a year later, the 38-year-old fought Jake Paul in a boxing match where they went 10 rounds. In the fifth, Diaz was knocked down by a left hook, but the former UFC star was able to carry on. Paul was declared the unanimous winner. Two judges scoring the fight 98-91 and one judge scoring it 97-92.
Now, the 35-fight veteran wants to make his octagon return on Mexican Independence Day.
Possible Opponents
Almost seven years on from their sequel, fans are still eager for Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor to complete their trilogy. Although there is still no fight on the horizon for the Irishman. Many have suggested that this fight might make more sense than the Michael Chandler matchup.
There is still a score to settle. Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor are both one apiece and a deciding bout may be the fight to push forward with.
Diaz’s last UFC bout was at welterweight, and he came in at 184.9 pounds against Jake Paul. It is therefore unlikely for him to be matched against any lightweight.
Being the pay-per-view draw that he is, a ranked opponent would be fitting for Nate Diaz.
Looking at the ranked welterweights, only a handful make sense for Diaz. One fight that would get fans invested would be if he were to face Colby Covington.
Two big personalities in MMA with some history between them. Diaz took aim first when he claimed he did not know who Covington was. And in 2019, ‘Chaos’ labelled Diaz as a “Stockton Soyboy”.
Whoever Nate Diaz chooses to return against, the ‘Diaz Army’ will be sure to tune in.
