UFC 279 finally has a new main event, and several fighters agree on new opponents.
Khamzat Chimaev failed to make weight ahead of his clash with Nate Diaz at UFC 279, hitting the scale at 178.5lbs. The weight miss caused a headache for the UFC and the teams involved. Thankfully, fans can still expect some gripping contests.
Taking the main event slot is Nate Diaz vs. fan favourite Tony Ferguson, who was originally scheduled to face Li Jingliang in the co-main event slot. Chimaev will gain the opportunity to settle the fight week beef in the Octagon when being met with Kevin Holland. Lastly, Li Jingliang will now square off with Daniel Rodriguez.
Dana White confirmed that both the main event and co-main would be five-round fights. It is also worth noting it’s been reported that the fighters that played ball and were easy to work with will earn an increase in their purse. To be confirmed.
