Highly touted English prospect Nathan Fletcher will fight Alessandro Giordano at Cage Warriors’ New Year’s Eve event:
Fletcher will welcome the Italian bantamweight to Cage Warriors, who is on a five fight winning streak (5-1 MMA).
Most recently, Nathan Fletcher fought long-time domestic rival Dominique Wooding for the vacant Bantamweight title. Fletcher ultimately came up short, however the Next Generation MMA fighter will be hoping that a win against Giordano puts him back in the bantamweight title picture.
Time Off
By the time the cage door closes, it will have been 15 months since Fletcher’s fight with Wooding. Since then, he has had trouble finding opponents to compete against:
His scheduled bouts with Araik Margarian at CW141 and Cameron Else at CW145 were called off. Fletcher took to Instagram to express his disappointment, and was supposed to fight a week later at CW146. Nothing materialised however, and he will now compete on December 31st.
The long layoff will have no doubt been frustrating for Nathan Fletcher, however, at just 24 years of age, he has time on his side to continue his development in a gym with a stable of fighters with proven success in Cage Warriors. Training at such a strong gym will no doubt help him be ready for the next time he earns the right to challenge for the belt. That all begins with a win over Giordano.
That belt is now held by Giordano’s compatriot, Michele Martignoni, who beat Wooding at CW144. Undefeated Caolan Loughran perhaps has the strongest claim to the next crack at the 135 pound title, but a dominant performance on New Year’s Eve, on the biggest show of the year would certainly put Fletcher into the conversation.
