Despite being dealt with a fairly last-minute opponent change, Neil Johnson is still pumped to get out there and entertain at British Fighting Championship 4.
BFC 4 takes place this Saturday, live from the Middleborough Sports Village. Fans can purchase tickets, as well as the pay-per-view link by visiting the promotion’s social media accounts.
Ahead of fight night, we had the chance of talking with Neil Johnson, who’s making his return to MMA competition.
Interview With Neil Johnson
Neil, you’ll return to the cage for the first time in some time this Saturday. Firstly, where have you been during that time, and what’s promoted you to come back and throw down?
Since my last fight, I focused more on PTing and my business, which meant I wasn’t able to fully commit to a fight camp, but during that time, I was still training.
With all that time from actively competing, there is room for significant improvements if you’re still actively training and improving. Have you been in the gym consistently since your fight at the start of 2022, and how much of a better version can we expect to see from Neil Johnson?
I then left the commercial gym I was at, started working on a new venture (big things coming) and had a lot more time to train and focus on fighting.
Are you a believer in “ring rust”, and do you anticipate that factoring into the fight at all?
I think ring rust would depend on the person. Right now, I am better than ever skill-wise.
You were originally set to face Elliot Harbourne but now will face Sam Willis. Give me your thoughts on the opponent, change, and whether it has affected your prep in any major way.
The opponent’s change doesn’t make a difference. I’m entering the cage to perform, test my skills and entertain the audience. Whoever is in front of me doesn’t change that fact.
Sam enters the fight 2-1, assuming you’ve watched his fights back. What can you take away from those, and how do you view hill skills up against yours?
I have watched his fights. Yes, he looks like a good fighter, and I’m excited to get in there.
Finally, let the readers know what we can expect to see from you on fight night.
You can expect a cracking fight.
