Dana White has expressed doubts about seeing Nick Diaz back in the Octagon anytime soon, particularly in 2024.
Originally, fans were excited for the welterweight clash between Nick Diaz (26-10 MMA) and Vicente Luque (22-10 MMA) at UFC Abu Dhabi, scheduled for Saturday, August 3rd. Unfortunately, the fight has been scrapped due to travel complications on Diaz’s end. Details about the issue remain scarce.
Diaz, who is 40 years old, hasn’t fought since UFC 266 in September 2021. At that event, he faced Robbie Lawler (30-16 MMA) and was knocked out in the third round.
Luque, known as ‘The Silent Assassin,’ last competed in March, where he was defeated by Joaquin Buckley (19-6 MMA) via TKO.
UFC CEO Dana White Not Convinced Nick Diaz Fights in 2024
Speaking during UFC 304 fight week in Manchester, Luque voiced his frustration over the cancellation of his bout with Diaz.
“I expected there might be some hiccups, like issues with the weight or other surprises, but I didn’t think the fight would be called off completely. I was really looking forward to fighting a legend like Nick Diaz and am still very eager to get back in there. I hope we can reschedule it soon.”
Luque further elaborated (via MMAJunkie):
“We’re actively trying to find a new date for the fight. I’m staying in shape and ready to go, whether it’s in August, September, or whenever we can arrange it. No updates just yet.”
While Luque and his team remain optimistic, the UFC’s outlook seems more uncertain. At the UFC 304 post-fight press conference, Dana White commented on Diaz’s situation, revealing his concerns about the fighter’s return.
