Molly McCann returns to UFC action this Saturday night at UFC 281 in New York City. Liverpool’s own McCann will look to pick up her third win of 2022 against the high-rising Erin Blanchfield.
After back-to-back spinning elbow victories at the O2 earlier in the year, Molly is looking to take her explosiveness to the legendary Madison Square Garden and deliver another famous victory, and round her year off in style.
As usual, the BT Sport crew previewed the fights from top to bottom ahead of this huge fight card. Adam Catterall, Michael Bisping and Nick Peet all gave their thoughts and predictions on Molly’s MSG debut. Fellow Scouser Nick Peet shared some insider information on what McCann has planned Saturday night.
Molly McCann’s Big Moment
Catterall asked his Fight Disciples partner whether or not he knew who Molly would be calling out should she claim the victory over Blanchfield. Without giving too much away, Peet replied: “I couldn’t possibly say because it was sworn to me in total secrecy”.
“Although, one thing I will say is, brace yourselves because she’s got a very special ring walk planned. It’s MSG, man. It’s a big moment.”
Bisping replied, stating that he was predicting that she would call out number five-ranked Alexa Grasso. He also suggested that the fight could even be a number one contender fight.
Nick Peet Expecting Best Version of McCann
Earlier in the show, Nick gave his thoughts on the matchup as a whole. He even suggested that Molly has levelled up since her previous outings.
“Hold on to your seats. Because I think we’re going to get an even better version. Speaking to Molly, speaking to the team around her, that work with her everyday, they just insist that she’s levelling up now.
“The way that she’s viewing her career, her sponsorship support that she’s got outside of the octagon, means that, her only focus now is on fighting. Her private life, that’s all taken care of now.
“All she is doing is surrounding herself with the very best people possible. Some of the bodies that they’ve had flown in, from all over the world to Next Gen. I’m talking, high-end Russian wrestlers, very good jiu-jitsu black belts. The level of people she’s rolling with now, she literally wouldn’t have been able to roll with them 18 months to 2 years ago.
“But, most importantly, the addition of Joe McNally, who’s probably one of the hottest boxing coaches in British boxing right now, the addition to him, in her last couple fights has really given her a new sense of self-worth and confidence. They just bounce off each other. And him being in the corner is a massive thing for Molly because he’s really good a coach that can get inside a fighters brain and switches them on at the right time.”
