Wales’ Oban Elliott impressed against hard-hitting Kaik Brito in their Dana White Contender Series bout
He showed a variety of offense, free-flowing striking, excellent range management as well as the ability to mix in some grappling. This is what we have come to expect from the Shore MMA product over his now 5 fight win streak. He exudes confidence each time he steps into the cage and continues to improve.
Oban Elliott DWCS Contract
It was a clean performance from the Shore MMA fighter in round 1, landing several damaging strikes and notching a takedown toward the end of the round. He showed that he was the better tactician and more well-rounded fighter through the first 5 minutes. At the start of the second round, it was more of the same. Elliott was able to control the distance and pace of the fight with ease, but that changed when Brito caught him with a massive right hand with about 2 minutes left in the round. From then until the bell rang Elliott was pushed back and in total defense mode being put in a few precarious situations on the ground after he got rocked. The third round was a full-blown dogfight, it came down to cardio, durability, and heart. Both were very tired but Elliott fought through it better landing heavy body kicks that were further depleting Brito’s empty gas tank. He then followed Brito to the ground when he made a mistake and finished the fight on top raining down strikes.
Oban Elliott bags DWCS contract won the fight via Majority Decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-28).
What’s Next For Elliott?
Oban Elliott was rewarded with a contract following his back-and-forth brawl with Kaik Brito. We saw a lot out of the Welshmen in this fight, we saw him dominate, we saw him face adversity, and then we watched him turn the tides en-route to the decision victory. What more can you ask for from a fighter with 11 professional fights? In my opinion, not much. He showed that he is willing to do whatever it takes to win a fight and that he has the survival instincts to compete against anyone you put him in the cage with. It would be great to see him in the octagon against another well-rounded fighter like himself, a veteran like Jared Gooden would be a good measuring stick fight. Whoever the UFC decides to match him up with it is sure to be an exciting fight as he promised to finish the next opponent he faces.
