Oleksandr Usyk has been named Ring Magazine’s pound-for-pound number one. This is following his split decision victory over Tyson Fury on Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Usyk Takes Top Spot In Ring Magazine’s Pound-For-Pound List
Formerly number three, the Ukrainian has moved above Naoya Inoue and Terence Crawford. Also below him are Canelo Alvarez (4th), Artur Beterbiev (5th), Dmitry Bivol (6th), Errol Spence Jr (7th), Gervonta Davis (8th), Jesse Rodriguez (9th), and Junto Nakatani (10th).
After unifying all the belts at cruiserweight in 2018 against Murat Gassiev. The now pound-for-pound number one made his heavyweight debut in 2019 against Chazz Witherspoon.
Since then, the talented southpaw has become the undisputed heavyweight champion after amassing an impressive resume. Including wins over Derek Chisora, Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua (twice), and now Tyson Fury.
What Next For Usyk?
Although the rematch with Fury is suggested to be triggered for October, as per Fury. What else does Usyk have to prove at 37 years old?
With an undefeated professional record of 22-0, a win in the rematch would not only certify his status as one of the best heavyweights of his generation, but one of the best boxers ever.
Becoming just the third person to unify all four belts in two weight classes, after Crawford and Inoue, certainly puts Usyk in the conversation as one of the all-time greats.
