Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury have both been suspended from boxing competition after their thrilling rematch. The Ukrainian fighter won by unanimous decision after 12 captivating rounds at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Usyk Triumphs Over Fury in Epic Clash, Both Fighters Now Suspended
In their epic clash, Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury delivered a special performance, each showcasing remarkable fighting IQ.
Tyson Fury, refining his defence since their first encounter, made significant improvements, flashing moments of his best form. Yet it wasn’t enough to overcome the legend standing before him. Usyk imposed a relentless pace, ultimately securing another impressive victory.
Although both fighters left fans eagerly awaiting their next appearances, they need time to recover. The WBC mandates a three-day rest for every round of the fight, meaning a 36-day break for both boxers.
Though neither would have competed during this period anyway, they will likely head home to celebrate Christmas before resuming training in early 2025.
Usyk’s Next Opponents: Five Potential Challenges for the Heavyweight Champion
Having solidified his position as the undisputed number-one heavyweight in the world, Oleksandr Usyk could easily leave the sport with his legacy intact.
However, if he opts to continue, there are numerous challengers eager for a shot at his crown.
With that in mind, we’ve highlighted three potential opponents who could face the boxing icon next.
First of which is Daniel Dubious, who Oleksandr Usyk was able to defeat back in August 2023. Usyk was able to get the victory in the 9th round due to a straight right. Since that fight, Dubious has been able to clinch the IBF title so this fight would allow Usyk to unify the titles once again.
The second fighter who could face Usyk next is Joseph Parker. Unlike Dubious who has already fought Usyk, Parker would be a fresh face for the heavyweight champion. Parker is currently the WBO interim heavyweight champion after he was able to defeat Zhilei Zhang to a majority decision. Parker is currently scheduled to face Daniel Dubious for the IBF title so this would also allow Usyk to unify the titles if he was able to get the victory.
Lastly, Zhilei Zhang could also be next to face the Oleksandr Usyk. Zhang will have to get back to winning ways after losing his interim title against Joseph Parker. Zhang will have the chance to be able to get back to winning ways when he faces Agit Kabayel for the WBC interim title.
