Golden Ticket Fight Promotions recently announced GTFP 19, a landmark event to be held on June 4th. Ollie White is currently 1-0 and makes his second walk to the cage to take on Welshman Callum Turberfield. White was first brought to my attention as one to watch by Battle Arena middleweight champion and teammates of White’s Karl Wareham, who called him “Game, Strong and Skilled”. We caught up with Ollie below.
Ollie White Interview
Hi Ollie, thanks for the time. How are fight preparations going?
Hi Jordan, thanks for having me! Yeah, fight camp has gone great so far. Been putting in the work and making improvements, both for mine and also for Mikey Tranter’s upcoming fight with the guys at Wolves MMA. I’m feeling in the best shape I have been in leading up to a fight. I’m excited to step back into the cage.
You had your first fight through the MMA Experience. How has that whole process been?
The MMA Experience was honestly amazing! I signed up for the white-collar event as a complete novice with zero martial arts or combat experience just over two and a half years ago. I was absolutely hooked after the first class I attended. The MMA Experience helped me build up my skills and confidence to the point we are at now. I had a few white-collar bouts with the MMA Experience and for my last fight, they gave me the opportunity to have my amateur debut. Overall the MMA Experience was amazing and I’d recommend to anyone wanting to give MMA a go to sign up for one of their events!
What got you into the sport in the first place?
I have always been a fan of the sport. The MMA experience was my opening to try it for myself, without them I never would have.
You won your last fight on the mat by rear-naked-choke. Would you say grappling is your strong suit?
I would say grappling is a big part of my game, but I’m constantly working on striking and improving all parts of my game day by day.
White on Wolverhampton MMA
It looks to be a good time to be fighting out of Wolverhampton MMA at the moment. How are spirits in the gym at the moment?
Wolverhampton MMA is a great place to be. We’ve got a real solid group there, always laughing and got some brilliant coaches. I love it there and am proud to be part of the team. Spirits are definitely high at the moment as we have 18-year-old Mikey Tranter looking to secure his first title at GTFP19, so we’re all very excited about that. The kid definitely has a bright future in this sport.
Is MMA staying as a hobby, or is it something you plan on pursuing to the highest level?
Anything I do I like to try and put my all into it. I’ve got a great team of talented coaches and fighters around me, so who knows. With a bit of commitment and hard work, the sky’s the limit I guess!
Thanks for the time Ollie, anything you want to add?
I would just like to say a massive thanks to my Coaches, Dan Corbley and Nick Fadiora and all the guys at Wolverhampton MMA for everything over the past two years and to wish Mikey Tranter the best of luck for his upcoming title fight. He’s going to smash it. Also, to Harry Marple and Brett Reeves over at Cannock for the extra work they’ve put in with me for this fight. I definitely can’t forget to shout out to my girlfriend Naomi for putting up with me constantly out training and the motivation to be the best I can be, and again thanks for the interview.
