ONE Championship announced the heading fights for its return event back in the United States on September 6th. The last time ONE Championship was in the United States was May 2023. Demetrious Johnson headlined the event against Adriano Moraes. Demetrious Johnson was able to defend his ONE Bantamweight MMA title against Moraes by decision. Johnson wasn’t the only big star on show that evening as Rodtang defended his Bantamweight Muay Thai title. Roadtang secured an early 2nd round knockout on his stateside debut.
ONE Championship: Stamp Headlining the Event
The former kickboxing and Muay Thai queen Stamp will head line the event in an attempt to clinch the ONE Championship MMA strawweight title. This opportunity came after Stamp was able to knockout Alyse Anderson in the 2nd round with a body-shot. This happened last time ONE Championship was in the United States.
Not only is she challenging for this title but she also got the better of Ham Seo Hee for the Atomweight title to become a champion in 3 sports. Before this fight for the strawweight championship, she will be defending the atomweight title against Denice Zamboanga at ONE 167 in June. Despite this booking, ONE Championship is expecting her to be able to challenge for the strawweight championship still. The fan favourite will be challenging the strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan in the main event.
The current champion was able to clinch the title back in 2018 and has gone on to defend it 7 times. The most recent defence of the title came back in 2022 against Angela Lee. Just like Stamp, Angela was moving up from Atomweight to strawweight.
Haggerty V Superlek at One 168
Not only is ONE Championship having a blockbuster main event for ONE 168. The co-main event is a can’t-miss event as well. The two-sport champion Jonathan Haggerty will be defending his ONE Championship Bantamweight Muay Thai belt against flyweight kickboxer Superlek. Jonathan Haggerty was able to clinch the belt after securing a surprising knockout victory over Nong-O Hama last April 2023. Since then he has only pushed forward defeating the MMA Champion Fabrício Andrade for the kicking boxing title as well. Last time out Haggerty defeated Felipe Lobo in the 3rd round by knockout. This time he will be facing one of the pound-for-pound best in Superlek.
Superlek was able to clinch the flyweight kickboxing title with a decision victory over Daniel Puertas back in 2023. Since that victory, he has defended the belt twice over Daniel Williams and Takeru Segawa. He also fought and defeated a former 2-time opponent of Haggerty in Roadtang by decision. Roadtang has fought and defeated Haggerty both times when they faced each other.
