Ahead of his upcoming UFC 282 bout. Paddy Pimblett has said he and his weekend opponent Jared Gordon rolled back in 2018. The Scouser has alleged that the grappling spar went his way.
The incident happened way back in 2018, long before the now UFC star made his mark on the big stage. Still in Cage Warriors at the time, the now 3-0 UFC fighter has said he submitted Gordon twice in five minutes.
Per an interview with BT Sport. Paddy has said the event took place at the Blue Basement in the Renzo Gracie Academy.
The Claim
Paddy Pimblett is clearly not short on confidence. His in-and-out-of-cage style is gaining him one of the fastest-rising fan bases in the sport. So far his talk has been backed up by his in-cage performances. Winning all three of his UFC bouts inside the distance.
With his UFC PPV debut just around the corner. The confident Scouser has begun his trash-talking ahead of his co-headliner Vs Jared Gordon.
In the interview, Paddy claims he once rolled with Jared back in 2018. He says it was only five minutes but in that time he managed to score not, one but two submissions over the American.
The first was a guillotine choke that he secured. Before finishing the session with a triangle choke. If this is true Pimblett may have the edge on the mat. An area that will be key in the upcoming fight.
However, this could all just be trash talk in an attempt to get inside Jared’s head before they show down. A showcase spot for both men, any advantage going into the fight could be critical to the outcome.
Many say what happens in training stays in training. As well as that, what happens in sparring isn’t a true reflection of what happens inside the cage. Luckily we get to find out at UFC 282.
Do you think Paddy Pimblett is telling the truth or is it just mind games?
