A huge fight in the lightweight division sees Liverpools own Paddy Pimblett clash with veteran King Green. King is ranked at #15 in the lightweight division, whilst Paddy is looking to take that number at UFC 304.
Paddy Pimblett vs. King Green
Undefeated in the UFC Paddy Pimblett returns to action in Manchester on Saturday night. The Liverpudlian is 5-0 in the UFC with 3 finishes, and he’s got his eyes set on a ranking. ‘The Baddy’ stormed into the UFC with 3 consecutive finishes and has lit up the British MMA scene. His last 2 fights have gone to decisions, a controversial one against Jared Gordon and a solid victory over veteran Tony Ferguson. Paddy will want to get a finish against King Green.
37-year-old King Green has hit a purple patch late in his career and currently holds the #15 spot in the division. Veteran King holds recent impressive wins over Grant Dawson, Tony Ferguson and Jim Miller at UFC 300. Most impressive of this run was his KO of rising contender Grant Dawson. King will want to upset the hometown crowd with a win over Paddy Pimblett and cement his place in the top 15.
The Fight
Both men walk towards each other with their hands down – something not often seen in MMA. Pimblett keeps range from the onset, landing strong calf kicks whilst Green taunts him. Green then begins to throw side-kicks and walk Paddy down, however these have far less impact. In a shocking turn of events – Green shoots a double leg takedown on Pimblett, who immediately jumps guillotine. The guillotine is tight, but he releases it and transitions to a triangle, which appears to be even tighter. Green attempts to defend but it is clear that it is already locked in tight. Pimblett then transitions again, this time to an armbar, whilst keeping his opponent in the triangle. However, King Green is already unconscious and the fight is stopped. Pimblett wins by submission emphatically in Round 1, making him the first person to submit Green in the UFC.
