Paddy Pimblett believes that Ilia Topuria is scared to fight Max Holloway as the Georgian-Spaniard’s first title defence at 145 pounds is yet to be announced.
Paddy Pimblett Foresees Max Holloway as the Next Featherweight Champion
Following his most recent video on the Paddy The Baddy YouTube channel, Pimblett continued his feud with “El Matador”. Not understanding the hype, the former Cage Warriors featherweight champion suggested Topuria will not get past Holloway.
The 29-year-old said: “I think I’ve got the same as everyone. Everyone’s picking Max, know what I mean? ‘Hand sanitizer boy’s’ scared to take the fight, doesn’t want to take the fight against Max because he knows what will happen.
“He fought (Alex) Volkanovski at the perfect time, coming back off getting knocked out like 10 weeks later. He got lucky there, to be honest.”
Topuria fast-tracked his way to the top of his division, and rightly so, after building on a six-fight win streak in the UFC with four coming by stoppage. However, when he knocked out Alexander Volkanovski in the second round at UFC 298, that is what put MMA fans on notice.
“The Baddy” Has a Point to Prove at UFC 304
Also speaking ahead of his fight against Bobby Green set for UFC 304, Pimblett knows what he wants next if he is successful on 27th July.
“Once I get through Bobby we’ll see what happens with Moicano,” Pimblett said. “Everyone wanted to see me vs. Moicano, so once I beat Bobby let’s see where Moicano’s up to.
“I think, obviously, everyone says that they want to fight Conor McGregor [as their dream fight] just because of the money involved. For me personally, it’s Islam Makhachev. Whoever’s got the belt you want to fight whoever’s got the belt. You want to prove that you’re the best in the world.”
On a five-fight win streak himself, in the UFC, Pimblett is one victory away from entering the lightweight rankings. Despite the reduced hype after his controversial unanimous decision victory over Jared Gordon at UFC 282. “The Baddy” has another opportunity to impress at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester later this month.
