Paddy Pimblett Brushes off Ilia Topuria’s star power.
Paddy Pimblett doesn’t see Ilia Topuria as a star in the UFC .Ilia Topuria is the current undefeated featherweight champion in the UFC. He has defeated Alexander Volkanovski for the title and more recently defended the belt against Max Holloway. Fans are impressed by Ilia’s performances after defeating two of the divisions toughest athletes in his title fights. Topuria has since stated he plans on leaving the division and trying to contend for the lightweight belt.
Paddy Pimblett appearead on the ‘Blood Red’ Podcast stating that he doesn’t believe Topuria’s that big of a star’. Pimblett also said:
”He’s only defended the belt once. Normally you need to defend the belt like three times”
“He’s not McGregor to just jump right up and fight for the other belt.”
“So I can’t personally see that happening, but we’ll see what happens.”
Pimblett announced via YouTube that he has an upcoming fight. As well as mentioning his plan to be soon in contention for the title.
Previous altercations
It’s no surprise to MMA fans that Paddy had something to say about Topuria’s plans of coming up to lightweight. They’ve have had altercations in the past that started with an old tweet that caused the two to clash at the fighters hotel before UFC London in March 2022. Since then the pair have been back and forth on social media and even crossed paths again at the UFC 282 press conference where they exchanged words.
Since there first clash both Pimblett and Topuria have gone undefeated in the UFC, fans were even hoping the both would agree to fight before Ilia became the featherweight champion. But now with Topuria’s idea of moving up a division it is possible we could see this happen in the future.
Paddy Pimblett’s Growth
Paddy Pimblett also known as Paddy ‘the Baddy’ is a lightweight fighter in the UFC with a record of (22-3) . Since the last time the 2 athletes clashed Paddy has defeated Tony Ferguson and Bobby Green. The scouser has also grown his popularity after entering the rankings with his victory in Manchester over Bobby Green. After fans were controversial towards his win over Jared Gordon, the Liverpool athlete has now gained respect after finishing Bobby Green in the first round.
