Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett has said that he’d “love” to fight Matt Frevola later on this year. In an interview with Adam Catterall, on TNT Sports, ‘The Baddy’ said that he hopes to fight once more before the end of 2023, mentioning Frevola as an option, and then again in March 2024 in the O2 Arena, in London.
He said that his only bout of the year could be taking place in Abu Dhabi or New York. But he added that no talks are currently being held over what his next fight will be.
When asked about how it’s been to be out of action for so long, Pimblett said that it’s been “very frustrating,” especially to see “sausages winning fights.” Catterall asked for names of who he meant but the scouser said “I don’t mention any names lad, you know me.”
A Different Potential Opponent for Pimblett?
Drew Dober’s name was mentioned by Catterall as the American had made some comments about wanting to fight ‘The Baddy’ in the past. Dober suggested, back in May, after he lost to Frevola, that Pimblett might be willing to fight him now that he had lost by TKO.
When asked about some of Dober’s comments, Pimblett said “Did he? See I haven’t even see Dober mention me.”
Paddy went on to bring up Matt Frevolas name: “It depends if I can come back, I would love to fight Frevola.”
The Next Generation MMA fighter was hesitant to give an exact time frame on his return. He said that he’d had problems with getting his visa renewed in order to return to the United States so that he can get the UFC Performance Institute doctors to properly look at his right ankle. He had surgery on that ankle in March and said that, now “I’ve basically got a new ankle.“
Paddy’s Struggles With Being Out
Pimblett said that one of the hardest parts about being out was the mental side of things. It’s been almost eight months since he last competed inside an octagon, and with no talks going on about his next fight it’ll likely be almost a year between fights for him.
He said that if his performance in his last fight against Jared Gordon, in December 2022, was better then it would have made things easier for him. “When you watch the fight back it was a terrible performance from me. I’ll probably never answer questions again in my post-fight interview about the actual fight until I’ve watched it back.” He added “In my own head I’d thought I’d done well in the fight. But then I watched it back and it was a completely different fight to what I had in my head.”
