Months removed off his victory against Bobby Green at UFC 304 in Manchester, Paddy Pimblett continues to generate buzz, both in and out of the Octagon. With an impressive UFC record of 6-0, including five finishes, “The Baddy” has quickly established himself as a fan favourite. Now, fans are eager to know when he’ll get his shot at UFC gold.
In a recent Q&A session on his YouTube channel, after a day of training, sparring, and handling new dad duties with his twins, Pimblett sat down to answer fan questions while signing memorabilia. One of the key topics? His path to a title shot.
UFC Star Paddy Pimblett Maps Out Path to UFC Lightweight Title
One fan, @MikeH147YNWA, asked the burning question: “Ideal run to a title shot? I’d say beat Moicano, beat someone top 5 (Oliveira), and you’re done enough for the shot.”
Pimblett was happy to respond, explaining how he could be just two fights away from a title opportunity.
“I’ve seen a lot of people saying I’m like two fights away from a title fight, and that is nice,” Pimblett said. “But two fights from a title fight would have to be like, Moicano, rank ten, and then do like a [Sean] O’Malley, and fight rank two, straight away, and that would be a Charles Oliveira. I’d do that. I’d fight Moicano, beat Moicano, and then I’d fight Oliveira. That’s probably me quickest route to a title shot, to be honest.”
Respect Towards Next Opponents
Despite outlining his path, Pimblett made it clear that his potential opponents aren’t just stepping stones to the belt. He expressed admiration for both Renato Moicano and Charles Oliveira.
“I really like both of them,” Pimblett said, referring to Moicano and Oliveira. “Both of them, really like watching them fight, so it would be a pleasure. Even more of a pleasure to get in there with Charles, a former champ. Someone who I’ve watched for years and years.”
But make no mistake, Pimblett is focused on his goal:
“It would be an honour to get in there with Charles, and a pleasure, but you know, they’re just in the way of me getting the belt, so I’d have to run through them,” he added.
Pimblett on Joe Rogan?
Another fan took the opportunity to ask Paddy when we might see him on the famed Joe Rogan podcast. Pimblett answered candidly, saying: “No idea. When the invite gets sent out, I’ll more than likely do it, but it won’t be until I’m back in America, and I don’t know when that’s going to be just yet.”
