Paddy Pimblett may not appear UFC 286 in London following his ankle injury. He disclosed on his YouTube channel that he would undergo surgery in March. Sustaining his injury during the first round of his controversial decision win against Jared Gordon, Pimblett is set to spend a long time out from competing.
‘The Baddy’ disclosed on his YouTube channel that he’ll be having surgery sometime in March. This conflicts with the date of UFC 286, which is set for the 18th March. It is the first pay-per-view held in England since 2016 when Michael Bisping fought Dan Henderson. Being one of the biggest draws in the organisation, Paddy will have been eager to feature in front of a home crowd. Sadly for the scouse star, it doesn’t look like it is meant to be.
UFC 286 is headlined by Leon Edwards, who is taking on Kamaru Usman to complete their trilogy. Following his emphatic fifth-round KO in their last bout, ‘Rocky’ looks to make his first title defence on home ground. Dana White also confirmed that Justin Gaethje vs. Rafael Fiziev will serve as the co-main event. That’s a fight that is promised to deliver fireworks to the UK crowd.
Paddy Pimblett Will Undergo Operation
Currently 4-0 in the UFC, Pimblett propelled to stardom very quickly. Comparisons to the likes of Conor McGregor for their meteoric rise to fame, it is a frustrating setback for the fighter. Paddy’s hype took a hit in his last bout however. His last performance was notably worse than his previous three fights. It was an uncomfortably close decision win in which many in the sport believed he lost. This raises questions on just how far he can go in the UFC’s most stacked division. The setback could do wonders for him though. It’s a chance to go back to the drawing board, take some time out and work on his skill set and recovery to ensure he comes back stronger than ever.
News of his pending surgery was revealed in his VLOG series. A doctor explains Pimblett’s x-ray mentioning there’s a small amount of cartilage lost and a build up of fluid. The text then appears to reveal that ‘The Baddy’ will indeed need surgery to treat his major ankle injury.
