Paddy Pimblett took on ‘The Schmo’ in some grappling exchanges at Next Generation MMA recently. The journalist posted a video to his YouTube channel showing the two rolling together. The Schmo eventually tapped to a flying triangle from ‘The Baddy’. Pimblett also talked about his upcoming fight with Tony Ferguson at UFC 296, and discussed his injury and mentality after the Jared Gordon bout.
Paddy Pimblett Rolls With The Schmo
Journalist ‘The Schmo’ admirably took part in some Jiu-Jitsu with Pimblett, and succumbed to a rear naked choke in the first exchange. Next, the scouse lightweight threw up a flying triangle from a standing position which Schmo had to tap to after the pair ended up on the ground.
Pimblett vs Ferguson
‘The Baddy’ went on to talk to The Schmo about his highly anticipated matchup with Tony Ferguson at UFC 296.
“It’s an honour to get in the cage with him lad to be honest, I can’t wait to fight. Can’t wait to shut the doubters up and prove all my fans right,” said Pimblett.
‘The Baddy’ is undefeated in the UFC with four wins. If he is able to beat Ferguson, he will add the biggest name by far to his winning streak. Ferguson has lost his last six and doesn’t appear to have a lot of fights left in the promotion. Nonetheless, he could be a dangerous opponent for Pimblett especially if underestimated.
Paddy Opens Up
When asked about his mindset after his last fight with Jared Gordon, Pimblett opened up about his struggle with injury and the criticism he received.
“I was disappointed with my performance, but a lot of that comes down to absolutely ruining my ankle in the first round. I got three surgeries… funny lad, people just keep going on about saying it was a robbery when it was a close fight. No one has cut me any slack over my ankle, lad you know what I mean? The hardest thing has been recovering over [the ankle injury] because I had to get surgery in March and then I’ve only been back in the gym sparring for about three months.
“Being away from the gym and just sitting in the house all the time was the hardest part. Sitting there with your own thoughts lad. All the stuff that I said last July still rings true with myself. It’s not just because I’ve got a few followers and a little bit of fame now, that doesn’t go away, you know what I mean? I have struggled the past year, but don’t you worry, I’ll be coming back in a big way in December and showing you all what you forgot.”
