Pat McCormack: British Boxings Next World Champion?
Pat McCormack stepped up emphatically last night, showing just how good he is. Is he Britain’s next world champion?
McCormack Beats Up Robbie Davies Jr
Last night on the undercard of Catterall-Barboza was meant to be a big step up for McCormack. However Pat thought differently.
McCormack put on a devastating performance in front of the Manchester crowd. Winning every round with aggressive front-foot boxing. Dropping Davies Jr multiple times before Ant Crolla pulled Davies Jr out of the fight in the sixth.
This was touted as a big step up. Davies Jr the former European, Commonwealth and British champion, is a tough experienced domestic fighter. He’s only ever been stopped once and that was in the twelfth round of the fight.
So this performance has put Pat McCormack on the radar of British boxing fans, it was a systematic breakdown of Davies Jr.
Britains Next World Champion?
After this performance and his amateur pedigree, I think we are entitled to label McCormack as Britain’s best chance at a new world champion shortly.
The Olympic silver medalist signed to Matchroom & Eddie Hearn had a fairly slow start to the professional ranks. With him not being nearly as active as he should be, mainly down to injury setbacks. The hype didn’t get going.
Last time out on the Catterall-Prograis undercard, he failed to stop William Herrera over ten rounds, which wasn’t a show-stopping performance.
However, last night was for sure a career-best performance from Pat McCormack and truly showed the skill set he has.
The pure power and speed he showed was something we haven’t really seen so far. The straight 1-2 was devastating last night, and Davies Jr couldn’t get out of the way of them all night.
There’s a lot of talk already about how people want Matchroom & Eddie Hearn to progress Pat McCormack. But I think it’s fairly obvious he should sit around for domestic level for too long, simply because he’s too good for it.
Last night was a British title eliminator, for the current holder Conah Walker, in what would make a great domestic fight. A fight that could springboard McCormack’s name among British fans.
