Paul Craig’s Commitment to Mentorship and “Giving Back”
UFC veteran Paul Craig has achieved success on the global MMA stage, but he’s now looking beyond personal wins to support Scotland’s next generation of fighters. With young talents like Sean and Stephen Clancy joining him at UFC 309, Paul Craig Mentor Scottish Fighters has become a mission he’s passionate about:
“I’m at the point in my career where it’s about giving back,” Craig shared, underscoring his dedication to building a legacy in Scottish MMA.
As an experienced MMA fighter, Craig is stepping into a new role by mentoring up-and-coming Scottish fighters. He recognizes the importance of supporting those at the beginning of their journey, sharing,
“I’m at the point in my career where it’s about giving back, and not taking from the sport, so if I can help as many young fighters as I possibly can, then that’s what I’m going to do.” This commitment to Paul Craig Mentor Scottish Fighters reflects a shift in his focus from personal accomplishments to creating a meaningful legacy behind for his fellow countryman.
Developing Future Contenders: Sean and Stephen Clancy
Among the fighters Craig is accompanied by with in New York City are Sean and Stephen Clancy, two promising Scottish talents who joined him in New York to experience UFC 309 up close. Craig emphasized the value of exposing them to the high-energy environment of a major UFC event, saying, “It’s more about them getting the opportunity to experience what it’s like to be backstage at the UFC.” This kind of support from Paul Craig gives them invaluable exposure to the pressures and excitement of high-stakes events.
It also shows the upcoming talent what’s there for them if they work hard, and when the time comes and they sign with the UFC, they know what to expect thanks to Craig.
Sean Clancy: A Rising Star with UFC Potential
Craig has high hopes for Sean Clancy, a young fighter already making waves in Cage Warriors. Speaking about Sean’s future, Craig remarked,
“Sean showcased his prowess in Cage Warriors. I do believe he’s going to get an opportunity in the UFC within the next year or two, and he’s a dangerous, young, hungry guy.” As part of his wish to help the rising starts of the sport from Scotland, Craig offers more than technical advice—he provides guidance on how to prepare mentally and emotionally for the UFC journey ahead.
Craig believes Sean’s skillset is so high that he could fight this Saturday and make a mark in his divison:
“I believe he could step in this Octagon Saturday night, and get a victory over the mass majority of that roster.”
For Craig it’s a broader commitment to strengthening the Scottish MMA community, and making use of his experience in the sport in order to benefit others coming through:
“If I can help as many young fighters as I possibly can, then that’s what I’m going to do.”
