Strickland Response to Paulo Costa Claims
The former champion has since responded to the claims he rejected the fight. Strickland responded via X by asking his followers how much the UFC were offering him to take the fight. One follower responded to Strickland by suggesting they offered $200,000 show, $200,000 win and $10,000 for fight week incentives. These would be media responsibilities.
Strickland did respond to the follower by commenting “Close but less lol” which shows it is even less than what the fan was suggesting.
Paulo Costa V Sean Strickland Fight for the Fans
A fight between Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa would excite a lot of MMA fans. This is due to both men looking to come forward to knock out their opponents. Strickland adopts a more technical striking approach during his fight. This would go well with Costa who looks to use his athleticism and power to end the fight before the distance. While on paper this looks to be a great match-up that is why the UFC matchmakers were looking to make this fight happen.
Both fighters are coming off a loss with Strickland losing his title to Du Plessis and Paulo Costa losing a tight decision to Robert Whittaker. According to both fighters, the only stumbling block seems to be the money Strickland is being offered. Strickland believes he deserves a better offer.
Does Strickland Have A Point?
Strickland may have a point in thinking he deserves to be earning more for this fight. This is due to Strickland having earned $1.3 million in his last fight when he lost to Du Plessis. MMA fans will be hoping that the UFC does raise its offer to Strickland. This is so we can see this entertaining fight happen.
