There is never a dull moment when it comes to Paulo Costa’s social media. If it isn’t his call-outs to every middleweight with an X account, it’s the reference to his “secret juice” that seems to be a mystical drink that keeps him in shape and fight ready.
Fight fans have not seen Paulo Costa since August 20th, 2022 where he gave Luke Rockhold a Unanimous Decision loss at UFC 278. That’s right – he has not been active in 2023 with two cancellations – one against Ikram Aliskerov and one against Khamzat Chimaev, where Costa was forced to withdraw from UFC 294 due to a very serious elbow infection that needed to be tended to.
Now it looks like Paulo Costa has taken aim at his next social media victim; he may not be a middleweight, but Costa has set his sights and is poking fun at UFC welterweight Ian Machado Garry, who will be putting his undefeated streak on the line at UFC 296 against Vicente Luque.
Has it Become a Bit Unnecessary ?
At this point, it seems unnecessary to continue to pile on Garry over the situation that is surrounding his personal life where his wife writing a book about how to be a WAG. But leave it to Paulo Costa, who plays confused while posting a meme taking a shot at Garry and the controversy that surrounds him and his wife.
Now this is where the fight game goes into a whole new stratosphere with these social media beefs, when wives and family members become involved.
Why the Meme, Paulo Costa?
The intentions of the meme from Paulo Costa are unknown, but maybe (just maybe) in Costa’s mind he is trying to create enough controversy to get Garry to pick him to fight, if Garry can get past Vicente Luque at UFC 296.
There is no denying that Ian Machado Garry’s name has star power, and to be the one to give him his first loss is highly coveted. 13 men have tried, but who knows – if Costa comes up with a special batch of his secret juice, maybe Costa vs. Garry could be reality and not just some social media beef.
Garry has been radio silence with the lead up to his fight at UFC 296, even no-showing media day. To be fair, as much as it would be interesting to hear him potentially answer questions on the controversies, you can’t really blame the guy for not wanting to surround himself around media who would be salivating to get the scoop, potentially taking away from his current fight.
Who knows if Garry will address Costa’s Meme at a later date or if he will choose to ignore it. What are your thoughts on the Paulo Costa meme? Lets us know!!
