Golden Ticket Fight Promotions‘ first event of the year is locked on to be an absolute spectacle of a card. On March 5th, in Wolverhampton, 64 warriors will battle inside the GTFP cage. We are in no doubt that it is going to be a fantastic night of fights, with Perry Goodwin vs Thomas Paull taking centre stage.
In the main event of the evening, two finishing machines lock horns in a bid to be crowned Golden Ticket Fight Promotions Lightweight Champion. Goodwin vs Paull promises to provide fireworks, and the consensus is that the judges will be obsolete.
I got the time to chat to Perry Goodwin about the upcoming bout and his thoughts heading into the title fight.
Interview with Perry Goodwin
This is your first outing in 2022. How has the preparation been going, and how are you feeling heading into this one?
I’m feeling good after breaking my hand in my last fight. It’s ready to go again, and I can’t wait to put it to good use.
Having followed you for a while, it’s no secret that you’re extremely dedicated, and you train harder than most. Have you kept that up this camp, and how has your training been going?
I am a workhorse, and I pride myself and how far I can push myself. I believe I carried on from my last camp, and I keep adding and improving.
Have you worked on anything more than usual this camp, and do you feel you’ve made great improvements in that area?
I’ve spent a little more time at North-East Jiu-Jitsu this camp, where the grappling is second to none. Yes, I believe I’m getting better each week.
Most of your wins have come by way of finish – is that something you’re prioritizing going into GTFP18?
That’s out of my control. All I can control is the win, and I plan on doing that in any possible way.
Will Goodwin’s Experience Play a Factor
Would you say your time with Cage Warriors and bouts against opponents such as Rhys McKee and Steve Aimable gives you an advantage against another experienced fighter in Thomas Paull?
I know for a fact it does. I’ve been in this game a long time. He might see himself as the “champ”, but trust me. He’s fighting me; I’m not fighting him. There are levels to this game.
How important would you say having people like Andrew Fisher working with you every day is?
Fisher is not only a coach. He’s a friend. I had nobody besides my Dad when I started, and he hadn’t stepped in the cage before. I guess I don’t give off the best first impressions, but regardless he’s showed up and helped me with all parts of my game. He has got me to be where I am and helped me become the person I am today.
Assuming you leave GTFP18 healthy and with your arm raised. What are your plans for the rest of the year?
I plan to get fat and drunk, then get skinny again, then get married, and hopefully, you will see me again this year.
What can people expect to see from your come March 5th?
I bring the fire every time. People can expect a warrior, a veteran, and I expect I win.
Goodwin Has One Final Message For Paull
Have you got any final comments before the cage door shuts in Wolverhampton?
Yeah, one last thing. Thomas’ management tries to save him by lowballing me. Offering silly money, so I had to turn this fight down. Chris Allen is not confident in his guy. I hope he reads this and thinks long and hard about what it’s like for your team to try and save you from danger. He was looking at fighting a guy coming off four losses before me… I’m not that guy. I’m not the guy to try to pad your record with. I am the toughest test he could have possibly found, and he’s in over his head. I’m not taking this on short notice. I am ready, and they know they f****d up. So, do I see you on March 5th, “Tomo”?
