Daniel Cormier has alleged that Petr Yan is potentially contemplating his UFC future in the wake of his defeat to ‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley this past Saturday at UFC 280.
The former UFC bantamweight champion lost via split decision in a highly contested back-and-forth war against O’Malley, with ‘Sugar’ jumping ten spots in the division rankings, taking Yan’s place as the No. 1 ranked bantamweight in the UFC. According to DC, the situation may have taken a turn for the worse. Cormier appeared via his ESPN show with Ryan Clarke ‘DC & RC’ to weigh in.
Daniel Cormier Weighs-in in on the Situation
“Ryan, a little inside baseball, Petr Yan is so disappointed in this decision. Petr Yan is so disappointed in the decision against Aljo, that I’m hearing word that this guy may want to look at something different down the line in terms of his career because he just does not feel like, maybe the organisation doesn’t have his back. It’s crazy.”
In addition to his loss to O’Malley, ‘No Mercy’ also lost a split decision to current bantamweight king Aljamain Sterling in an opportunity to unify the division titles back in April. Petr has made no secret of his feelings on that decision, believing that he should’ve walked out as undisputed champion. This, along with the fashion Yan lost his title to Aljamain Sterling via DQ, has made many people feel he hasn’t had the rub of the green within the organisation. It seems the past weekend’s events will only further open up that conversation.
Extremely frustrated with the decision, Yan has commented on the fight once via twitter.
