Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos claims that he doesn’t meet the required criteria to be considered for the ‘BMF’ belt.
When asked by reporters whether he would like to fight for the ‘BMF’ (Baddest Mother F****r) title, Dos Anjos claimed that due to his past accomplishments in MMA, he was overqualified for the position.
“I don’t think I make the requirements for that fight, to fight for the BMF. I’m a former champion, so I held the linear belt. Guys that fight for that belt were guys that never held the championship before.”
Could RDA Be the Real ‘BMF’?
Many fans believe that Dos Anjos is without a doubt one of the baddest men in the UFC. His resume to date is a who’s who of mixed martial arts. Dos Anjos has shared the octagon with Donald Cerrone, Benson Henderson, Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, Eddie Alvarez, Tony Ferguson, Robbie Lawler, Kamaru Usman, Kevin Lee, Colby Covington, Leon Edwards, Paul Felder, Rafael Fiziev and Khabib Nurmagomedov to name just a few.
Dos Anjos has no doubt got some marquee names on there but the results of those fights have had mixed outcomes with wins and losses along the way.
RDA won the lightweight title back in 2015 with a unanimous decision victory over Anthony Pettis. Dos Anjos then defended the belt against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone with a first round TKO before losing the title in a first round stoppage defeat to the underground king Eddie Alvarez.
Dos Anjos Vs Luque
Rafael Dos Anjos and Vincente Luque were set to face off back in July but the bout was pushed back. Since then, we have learned that Luque had suffered a brain hemhorrage in his last bout back in August 2022. Luque lost via a third round knockout to Geoff Neal. He has now been cleared to fight again by the athletic commissions and we pray that Vincente Luque has made a full and proper recovery in what must have been a terrifying turn of events.
Luque enters the bout after a year out of the octagon and is coming in with back-to-back defeats against Belal Muhammed and Geoff Neal. Dos Anjos is also yet to fight in 2023. Last time out, RDA beat Bryan Barberena via a second round submission.
The two will face off this this Saturday night at the Apex on a UFC Fight Night card.
