Randy “Rudeboy” Brown calls out Michael Chiesa in his post fight victory speech.
Brown (18-5) is coming off a first round knockout of Muslim Salikhov this past Saturday. At UFC Vegas 85, RudeBoy was trying to take a case for him to be ranked. After an impressive showing Saturday, he calls out Michael Chiesa, ranked at number 14. Brown has won six of his last seven fights. That lone loss came against Jack Della Maddalena, who is himself supporting a 16 fight win streak. Now, Randy Brown is looking to make his way back into the rankings and make a run for the title.
A fight with Michael Chiesa represents the best opportunity to propel him into the rankings. Chiesa is currently on a three fight losing streak. His loss came against Vicente Luque, Sean Brady, and Kevin Holland. As well, the season 15 Ultimate Fighter winner has only fought once since 2021. Due to inactivity, Brown believes Chieasa should relinquish his ranking or defend it.
“I just always thought we would be a good matchup for years,” Brown told reporters post-fight at UFC Vegas 85. “These are the guys that I’ve been watching. These are guys that when I grew up watching MMA as an amateur, that I’ve seen in ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ and I’ve got a ton of respect for them. I just think you have to defend your ranking. As someone established in the rankings – or, as you say, ‘a contender’ – you can’t just rest on your laurels. This isn’t a shot to him or anything, but I just feel like he doesn’t fight as consistently as he should.“
What’s Next for Randy Brown
Coincidentally, or not, Michael Chiesa was working on the desk for ESPN during fight night. After the fight, both men crossed paths a spoke to each other. Allegedly, they agreed to a future date and Randy Brown is hopeful that Chiesa is a man of his word.
“We’re trying to get it done,” Brown said. “He said maybe UFC 300 is a little too soon for him, but he wants to do it. If he’s a man of his word, which I think he is, hopefully, the UFC can come to something or we can go to the UFC and work it out. We’ll see.”
Brown continues on the post-fight press conference as to why these two should clash.
“If I’m a contender coming up and I’m looking at these guys and I’m like, ‘Who can I realistically get a matchup with?’ and the guys that aren’t fighting, you’ve got to do something to prove you belong in that spot. I feel like he’s one of the guys that don’t fight enough, so I just locked in on him.”
This was Brown’s first win by knockout since 2019. He’s been in the UFC since 2016 and time for him to make a run for the title. With most of the ranked fighters being booked, RudeBoy took this fight to show how is willing to fight anyone. Randy Brown versus Michael Chiesa will make all the sense in the world. This would be an ideal matchup in advantage for Brown to enter the rankings and get a chance down the line to avenge his losses to Vicente Luque, Belal Muhammad, and the aforementioned Jack Della Maddalena.
