At UFC Mexico City media day, Raul Rosas Jr. discussed his excitement in gaining experience against a veteran like Vince Morales while calling for a ranked opponent next.
Rosas gained fame for his skill at a young age, on his way to a 4-1 UFC record at just 20 years old. With a three-fight win streak and rising hype, it was assumed Rosas would be getting a ranked opponent next. Rob Font also confirmed that he was offered Rosas for his UFC Seattle fight.
Rosas himself called for a top-15 opponent following his last win but was granted Vince Morales instead, who currently rides a two-fight losing streak. Rosas, however, is happy with the matchup and sees Morales as a step in the right direction for his career.
“I just wanted to stay active, I just wanted to fight. I’m excited to go out there and fight somebody like Vince Morales. He’s a veteran, and to be able to finish him. That way I also get more experience and keep proving I’m ready for the next step. So I’m excited to go out there, get more experience, and hopefully my next one will be a top 15.”
Raul Rosas Returns to Mexico City
Rosas was scheduled to face Ricky Turcios in Mexico City last February but was forced to withdraw right before walkouts due to illness. The bout was later rescheduled for Kentucky and resulted in a Rosas submission victory. Rosas now gets the chance to make up for that, although he feels no obligation to.
“I left that in the past already. I believe God has a plan for me, and God’s plans are greater than mine. It just wasn’t my turn that night; I’m just glad I was able to get that over with. I’m excited to be back in Mexico City, though, and be able to perform in front of my family in front of my people.
“I’m excited you know being able to share the card with a lot of Mexican talent coming up. So I’m excited to just go out there and be part of the team to be able to raise the flag how it’s supposed to be.”
The UFC’s return to Mexico City sees no shortage of Mexican talent, with superstar Brandon Moreno in the Main Event. Budding lightweight Manuel Torres appears in a highly anticipated Co-Main Event, while prospects like David Martinez and Ronaldo Rodriguez feature on the Main Card.
When asked how he sees his fight against Morales going, Rosas gave a short but sweet response,
“I’m ready for a war but I’m going to go out there and get a finish”
