UFC Mexico happened last weekend. In the main event, we had the former two time flyweight champion Brandon Moreno. We saw him facing another Brandon, Brandon Royval. It was the first time in four years the UFC went back to Mexico. In the main event, we saw Moreno dropping a split decision against Royval. However you scored this fight, it did not disappoint the Mexican fans.
In the co main event, we saw the return of Brian Ortega against Yair Rodriguez. Ironically, both the main and co main event were rematches. What’s even more ironic is that both of their first fights ended in an injury. The second time around was a different story. While Rodriguez did a 10-8 in the first round, the later rounds didn’t go so well for the Mexican. The altitude of Mexico City could have played a part, and Rodriguez seemed to gas out. Eventually, going to sleep due to a nasty choke by T-City in the third round to come back and win. This was not the only disappointment for the Mexicans. The highly doubted prospect Raul Rosas Jr was set to fight in the main card.
Approximately five minutes before his fight, Raul Rosas Jr was pulled due to sickness. He was supposed to face Ricky Turcios in what is a highly anticipated showcase in his home country.
Raul Rosas Jr and Ricky Turcios
Although, during the broadcast, they announced Raul Rosas Jr was going to fight in a week at UFC fight night. Meanwhile, Ricky Turcios posted on his Instagram story that no contracts have been signed.
“FAKE NEWS!! No fight contract has been signed yet for a new date. Last night, Rosas Jr said no fight literally 5 minutes before the walk out to fight in the octagon. Rosas Jr said no to facing me in the octagon in front of his 20,000 Mexican fans in Mexico. Rosas Jr disrespected the bushido code… Very unprofessional. Ricky “TheUltimateFighter” wins in Mexico City. VIVA MEXICO!!! Thank you to all my friends, family, and all the fans. ALL LOVE.“
Turcios posted this story albeit after Dana White and the broadcast announced the rescheduling. With the UFC Fight Night upon us, no updates have been made. Now, this fight will not be happening. The card is locked in and no Raul Rosas Jr.
There was a chance that after posting this story, the UFC would try to salvage and get the contracts done. Now it remains to see if Raul Rosas Jr will fight Ricky Turcios at a later date or scrap the fight completely.
Raul Rosas Jr is 2-1 in his very young UFC career. Two of those wins came by way of finish. Certainly, cannot forget that he signed with the UFC at 18 and just turned 19.
Why do you think the UFC couldn’t reschedule this fight? Should the UFC rebook this fight or move on? Let us know in the comments.
