It’s fight week, and Reece McEwan is gearing up for a pivotal showdown against UFC veteran Cameron Else at Cage Warriors 171 in Glasgow’s Braehead Arena. Despite his recent title bout setback, McEwan is laser-focused and ready to make a statement in front of his home crowd.
Reflecting on his last fight against Liam Gittins, McEwan acknowledges the learning curve it provided:
“I’ve learned from it, I’ve grown from it,” McEwan says:, “I’ve improved massively.” With a renewed mindset and refined skill set, McEwan is eager to showcase his evolution come Saturday night.
“The people around me are noticing the difference in my mentality, attitude, and skillset. The beautiful thing about competition is that I’ve got 15-minutes to show these improvements on the 20th April.”
Reece McEwan Reflects on Upcoming Cage Warriors Scotland Event
For McEwan, the return of Cage Warrior’s to Scotland holds special significance, “It’s surreal,” he reflects:
“Not many fighters get to fight in a huge arena like the Braehead Arena in Scotland.” Co-headlining the event adds an extra layer of excitement, confirming the level of respect the promotion have for McEwan.
An added bonus this time around is the loyal McEwan support don’t have to travel to the likes of England and Wales to watch their hero compete, this is something McEwan is excited for. However, now his profile has grown across the UK, there will still be supporters making the trip from all across the United Kingdom:
“I’m very excited they don’t have far to travel, but the beautiful thing is I seem to have developed a lot of support down in England and in Wales, so there seems to be a lot of travelling support that seems to be coming to the Braehead Arena which is magnificent. In terms of my close family and friends, I’m glad they don’t need to travel far, they don’t need to consider expenses for hotels for over weekends, or sorting travel. They literally are 30-60 minutes in some cases. I’ve got a huge support up in Fort William, I’ve got a huge support all around Scotland that maybe still have to travel a bit far, but for the most people don’t need to travel as much. I get a lot of home comforts in the days surrounding the fights.”
Facing Cameron Else, a seasoned opponent with notable wins like Paddy Pimblett under his belt, McEwan is unfazed:
Excited for The Challenge
“He’s a solid opponent,” McEwan acknowledges. “But for me, it’s an excellent challenge at this stage of my career.” A victory over Else would be a significant scalp, cementing McEwan’s place among Europe’s elite bantamweights.
“To have that win over a UFC veteran speaks volumes on my career, and it’ll be a huge scalp on my resume.” McEwan stated.
Looking ahead, McEwan is determined to bounce back stronger than ever, and put on a clinic on April 20th:
“MMA is full of ups and downs,” he asserts. “You can’t get too low on the lows.” With a multi-fight deal with Cage Warriors secured, McEwan is poised to embark on another impressive winning streak, and prove what he believes, that he’s the best bantamweight in Cage Warriors.
As he gears up for his highly anticipated bout on April 20th, McEwan is hungry for a big year, and to showcase his improvements: “2024 will be an amazing year in my career,” he declares.
