Renato Moicano may have accidentally leaked Paddy PImblett’s next fight while talking on his podcast Show Me The Money.
UFC fans have long awaited an announcement for Paddy Pimblett’s next fight. The surging scouser has taken the MMA world by storm, with both positive and negative attention.
The hype surrounding Pimblett may have reached an all-time high after his spectacular performance last time out at UFC 304, where he submitted King Green in round one.
This victory and a 6-0 start has seen Pimblett earn a place among the UFC elite as he sits #12 in the lightweight rankings.
Seen as a ‘money fight’ many have called for a fight with Paddy. Among the top 15, names mentioned include Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler and Renato Moicano.
However, according to the most recent lightweight title challenger, Moicano, a new opponent will face Pimblett.
Renato Moicano Potentially Leaks Paddy Pimblett’s Next Fight
Speaking on his podcast Show Me the Money (time stamp 28:37) with welterweight contender Gilbert Burns. Moicano seemingly slips up when revealing Paddy Pimblett’s next fight.
While talking about Mateusz Gamrot, Moicano says to his co-hosts, “Do you know he’s fighting Pimblett?”. This on its own would be easy to ignore, however, several factors add credence to the claims.
The first is the reaction of Moicano and Burns after the fact. Moicano seems flustered and slightly dismissive about what he’s just revealed. Burns pokes fun at Moicano for revealing a “breaking news”.
The second factor is that Moicano and Gamrot both train at American Top Team. Meaning the pair might be close, or, Moicano may have inside information from helping Gamrot prepare for Pimblett.
Finally, on his YouTube channel, Pimblett recently revealed that he is in fact ten weeks out from a fight. That would line up perfectly time-wise.
Paddy Pimblett vs Mateusz Gamrot
If the fight was to be more than a rumour. It seems like a good fight to make, with Pimblett (22-3) ranked #12 and Gamrot (24-3) #8.
While Gamrot has competed higher up the rankings, regularly testing himself against the best in the world. Pimblett’s skill set matches up nicely and is an ideal step up to see if he can hang with the top lightweights.
Of his 24 wins Gamrot has finished 13, eight via submission and five via KO. Pimblett has a higher finishing rate with an impressive 16 in 22, with ten submissions and six KOs.
If the bout is happening a realistic date could be April 12th when UFC go to Miami for UFC 314. The card is currently in the process of being built with rumours about potential headliners yet to be confirmed.
