Renato Moicano Steps up for Short Notice Title Fight

Money Moicano steps In to save the UFC 311 main event. News recently broke about Arman Tsarukyan having to pull out of UFC 311 due to injury. The question we were left with was with one sleep left before the first pay-per-view of the year what will happen with the main event? As for the injury that sidelined Tsarukyan it is speculated to be a back injury but that is all that can be gathered now. With the long-awaited rematch out the window who would be willing to take on a short-notice title fight? Enter Renato Moicano a man who has stepped up in a big way to save the UFC 311 main event. Moicano was originally matched with Beneil Dariush for UFC 311.

It Takes Two to Dance

A common phrase we hear in combat sports is that it takes two to dance. With Tsarukyan out and Islam Makhachev being the dominant champion he is there are not many who are jumping at the chance to take a short-notice fight against him. even with the lightweight title being up for grabs. Moicano stepped up not only for a fight but in an event-saving way. There are very few names that take a title shot on short notice and even fewer a title shot against Makhachev, if Moicano can get this done he will etch his name among the best.

UFC 311 Short Notice Title Fight

Islam Makhachev is a task all by himself. Now add the pressure of a short-notice title fight we have a real issue. See a title that changes the competition from three (3) five-minute rounds to five (5) five-minute rounds. Twenty-five minutes on short notice with Makhachev whose professional record is 26-1 what person is ready to step up to the task. The UFC believes they have found the answer and the answer is Money Moicano!

Renato Moicano Could Solve the Problem

First, they whispered his name as a replacement possibility now they believe Money could solve the problem! With a professional record of 20-5-1, Moicano could be the fresh blood the lightweight title picture has been waiting for. Couple that with the fact his Jiu-Jitsu is great and striking and just as polished. Money Moicano is a stylistic nightmare for the current champion. With his last two wins coming by TKO finishes over Benoit Saint-Denis and Jalin Turner. Money Moicano just might be the face the UFC and the fans were looking for this weekend.

Injury Is Part of the Sport

Unfortunately for Tsarukyan injury is just as much part of the sport as the jab. So far there has been no news on how long Tsarukyan will be out. Or if he will get his rematch with Makhachev. All we can do is wish him a speedy recovery. At the same time, getting ready for the man who will wage war in his place. Although it is a bittersweet moment Makhachev vs Moicano is happening, will this be Dillashaw vs Barao all over? Or will the champion continue his quest for double-champ status?
