GLORY Kickboxing today announced that Heavyweight Champion Rico Verhoeven will defend his Title against no. 1 contender Antonio Plazibat in 2023 at GLORY: COLLISION 5.
27,000 fans are expected to witness the historic event in person. The date and venue are to be announced shortly.
The King Of Kickboxing Rico Verhoeven Returns
Verhoeven is coming off a Fight of the Year winning battle against Jamal Ben Saddik in October of 2021.
After being dropped and suffering on orbital fracture early in the second round, Verhoeven rallied to stop Ben Saddik late in the fight and defended his Heavyweight Title for the 10th time.
His next Title Defense will come against Plazibat, who solidified his status as the Heavyweight Division’s top contender after defeating Raul Catinas by knockout in the main event of GLORY 82 last November.
GLORY’s intention was to have this fight take place next March, but due to an injury of Rico Verhoeven, COLLISION 5 will be postponed for a few months.
Depending on the course of Verhoeven’s recovery, which is top priority, date and location will soon be announced.
The last time we saw Verhoeven in a GLORY ring was at the COLLISION 4 Main event Post-fight, with Alistair Overeem declaring that he’s the true Champion after his victory over Badr Hari.
Causing Rico Verhoeven dubbed ‘The King of Kickboxing’ and the official Heavyweight Champion, to enter the ring and make his feelings felt.
This fight will be the fifth edition in the history of GLORY: COLLISION, a series of monumental heavyweight fights.
Full fight card information will be announced in the coming weeks.
