Riley Daniels is desperate to put on a show for the Golden Ticket Fight Promotions audience and is hungry to take Matt Howarth’s 0.
GTFP 23 is set to take place this Saturday, Sept 2nd, in Wolverhampton, England. The event will take place at K.K Steelmill. Tickets can be purchased on the promotion’s website alongside the PPV stream.
Daniels made his return to competition last month and successfully took his win streak to two by defeating Rafal Barnus. Ahead of the battle, we had the chance to talk with Riley Daniels before fight night.
Interview With Riley Daniels
A few weeks out from fight night, Riley. How are you feeling after your successful return last month, and can you sum up how good it felt to be back?
It felt great and like I never left.
I say return as you recently just returned at Wild 3 after undergoing a year away from competition. Firstly, did you intend to take that long out, and secondly, despite looking into the result, did a year out affect you in a positive or negative manner, would you say?
I learnt a lot in the year out; I had a few injuries to attend to and just smashed the jits when I couldn’t do striking. Then, when I felt like the time was right, I got right back into full mma training and sparing.
In that year, out of competition, in which department do you feel you’ve made the biggest games? Technically or perhaps mindset.
I had to take some time out to recover from injury, then I got right back into jits every day and was competing very regular in that, so it wasn’t like I wasn’t doing anything; I was sharpening other tools.
Riley Daniels Talks Matt Howarth
GTFP 23, you face off with Matt Howarth; what are your thoughts on this fight and the threat he possesses?
Matt is well-rounded, game and undefeated. I’m excited to showcase my skills against another talented prospect and also take that 0.
Golden Ticket has been a happy hunting ground for you in the past. For someone who’s attending for the first time. What can they expect from Riley Daniels?
First-time GTFP attendees can expect an exciting fight from me; I’m always looking to finish the fight.
A year out, and now you’re closing in on quick back-to-back fights. Is that the mindset as we close out the year? Just to make up for the lost time the last 12 months?
That’s exactly it, making up for lost time. I want to be as active as I can without being unable to fight for the latter end of last year.
The Undefeated Record
Matt made his debut this year and came in at 2-0. Assuming you’ve watched those back, what can/are you taking away from those fights, if anything?
Matt is actually 4-0, and I had a look to see what sort of fight to expect or style, but I’m concentrating on myself like always.
And finally, I’ll leave you with the last word. Is there anyone you want to thank or any last words for your opponent?
Thanks to all my team mates at hw1 and Nottingham mma and all my family who support me behind the scenes. I couldn’t have got through this past year with out them.
