Robert Whittaker does not foresee title redemption for Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.
Robert Whittaker Picks His UFC 305 Main Event Winner
Newly crowned middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis, is due to make his first title defence at UFC 305. The South African will take on former middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya, in Perth, Australia.
Perth is familiar territory for “The Last Stylebender”. The city is where Adesanya became the unified middleweight champion back in 2019 at UFC 243. Adesanya knocked out Robert Whittaker in the second round to claim the title and unify the belts.
Since that loss, Whittaker has worked his way through the middleweight roster fighting every notable middleweight you can imagine – including current champion, Du Plessis.
A mutual opponent of both sides of the UFC 305 main event, Whittaker weighed in on the fight ahead of his own this Saturday.
“I’m going to lean toward Dricus,” Whittaker told MMA Junkie. “I think what he displayed in his fight against Sean Strickland, that forward pressure and that awkward, unorthodox style, – especially with the success Sean had doing that to Izzy – I think that’s a recipe to beat Adesanya”.
Having fought both men and spent over 30 minutes with Adesanya inside the Octagon, “The Reaper” is one of the most well-informed voices on the fight. Secondly, arguably, to Sean Strickland.
Whittaker will take on late replacement Ikram Aliskerov at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh this weekend.
