Robert Whittaker Weighs in on UFC 301 Main Event
UFC 301 was headlined by Alexandre Pantoja and Steve Erceg, with flyweight gold on the line. The fight went the distance in seemingly a well matched bout. Pantoja ultimately won via unanimous decision. However, some fans have stated that the challenger Steve Erceg should have walked away with the win.
While appearing on an episode of MMA arcade, Robert Whitaker gave his thoughts about the UFC 301 main event. He stated the following:
“We’re Australians, I wanted to see Steve get that title and bring it back, but I don’t know how much of this ‘controversy’ I can look into because I thought Pantoja did enough to win.”
Whittaker said he was scoring the fight as each round went on, and felt that Erceg wasn’t doing enough to snatch the win.

“Personally, I had Pantoja winning the first three rounds, I thought four went to Erceg and I think five could have been either way,” Whittaker said. “The way Steve finished was kind of bad. you never want to finish on your back.”
Erceg appeared disappointed in himself as the winner was being announced, but understands that he should now move up the rankings regardless. Going into this bout he was ranked number 10 in the flyweight division. After going the distance with the champ, fans wonder what is next for the Australian.
