Kayla Harrison’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, has drawn comparisons between his fighter and former UFC superstar, Ronda Rousey, ahead of her matchup against Holly Holm at UFC 300 this weekend.
Kayla Harrison Heaped Praise With Ronda Rousey Comparison
The founder of Dominance MMA Management has made his beliefs clear on what Harrison can achieve in the UFC.
In an interview with Kevin Iole, Abdelaziz said: “At the end of the day, she’s a two-time Olympic champion, two-time PFL champion… never missed weight, make 145 during COVID in her room, you know what I’m saying?
She will make weight and listen, at the end of the day, just tune in. She’ll get a title shot, become a UFC champion. We have a Ronda Rousey on steroids, that’s what we have.”
Rousey defended the UFC Women’s Bantamweight belt six times and only went past the first round once in her stint. She would always finish her opponents, opting to knock them out or submit them through an armbar.
However, it was Holm who stopped Rousey’s reign with a head-kick knockout in 2015.
Harrison V Holm At UFC 300
Despite the UFC debutant formerly fighting at 155 pounds in the PFL, shredding the extra weight has already been trialled.
Speaking to Kevin Iole, Harrison said: “We did a test cut. Everything was measured… I’m really confident in my team and I’m really confident in myself. I’m not saying it’s going to be easy, but the things in life that are worth having are usually not easy.”
Coming into the fight as the -450 betting favourite, Harrison is widely expected to deal with Holm comfortably.
The number five-ranked women’s bantamweight, Holm, is seemingly coming to the end of her career at 42 years old. On the other hand, it looks like Harrison will just be getting started in the UFC this weekend.
With just one loss on her record, coming by unanimous decision against Larissa Pacheco in 2022, the step up in competition starts now for Harrison.
