The controversial superstar Ryan Garcia on his latest Twitter tirade has been talking about retirement. In his last few social media posts Garcia has been hinting that he will end his boxing career prematurely and pursue other avenues. This follows the backlash and controversy surrounding his positive PED tests. Initially this started with a very vague statement indicating he’s considering an end to his boxing career. He talks about how boxing will be fine without him which it will be.
Ryan Garcia Announces Retirement Following Boxing Ban
Not long after this he posts another tweet being a lot more specific directly saying he may retire. This time it’s in all caps in a potential effort to appear more serious and expressive.
Then he posts something a bit more alarming generally telling people to forget him. This again also relates to the retirement talks as he’s telling everyone to forget about him and by extension his career.
Again a more straightforward message saying he’s leaving.
Here he goes on a whole spiel about boxing being corrupt which in some parts it is. However, Garcia is not a victim of corruption he tested positive for PEDs. He goes on to talk about how he loves boxing.
In his final tweet in this saga Ryan Garcia claims that he is retired. An apt conclusion to this bizarre array of tweets talking about retirement culminating in announcing his retirement. Garcia is no stranger to strange tweets and this latest outburst is one of many but even for Ryan this is strange. Garcia just had his career best win granted it’s been tainted by the PEDs and weight miss but still impressive.
Why Retire?
There has been speculation that the retirement talk is in relation to the failed drugs test and the fallout of that. Boxing journalist Dan Rafael has pointed out the coincidental timing of Ryan’s retirement. According to Rafael Garcia’s retirement coincides with a pending New York State Athletic Commission suspension and a potential overturning of Garcia’s win.
Now this would make more sense as to why Garcia is “retiring”. He may be receiving a suspension due to his PED use and may be trying to make it look like he’s taking time out on his own terms. The commission will be holding a hearing this week. The “retirement” could also be a ploy to avoid being suspended or banned by the commission depending on what they rule.
So we shall see what the NYSAC rule and if Ryan is serious about the retirement in due time and if Ryan actually receives a suspension.
