Ryan Garcia following his victory over Devin Haney has found himself in hot water. Garcia’s VADA pre-fight A-sample drug test has reportedly had adverse findings. The test has revealed Ryan had ostarine in his system and allegedly a nandrolone metabolite. This could potentially spell disaster for Garcia’s future and the result of the fight. Garcia has since denied he did any wrong doing and he is being set up.
Multiple sources including ESPN, Mike Coppinger, Dan Rafael, Michael Benson have revealed that according to a VADA letter Ryan Garcia failed a pre-fight drugs test. The test was the day before the fight and has since been processed after the fight revealing banned substances. The substances are Ostarine and allegedly a nandrolone metabolite. Ostarine is a SARM that has similair effects to anabolic steroids which can help build and maintain muscle. Nandrolone is also an anabolic steroid associated with muscle growth. Both substances are on the banned list of substances for VADA.
Boxer Ryan Garcia Fails Drug Test
This could have big implications for the results of the fight and Ryan Garcia’s career. The fight’s result as a win for Garcia could be overturned to a no-contest due to the failed drugs test. This is something Devin Haney and his team could and likely will rightfully push for. This failed test could also lead to Garcia being suspended or banned for a significant period of time. Either of which are bad for his career not allowing him to capitalise on the momentum of his best win. The test also adds further controversy to the fight with Garcia missing weight before a dominant victory and then failing a drugs test.
Garcia has since denied any wrongdoings on both instagram and twitter with a series of bizarre posts. Garcia appears to be claiming foul play and that he has been set up denying he took any steroids. He appears convinced that he hasn’t done anything wrong. Ryan has 10 days to request his B-sample to potentially clean his name. All in all this is not a good look for the superstar.
This also isn’t great for Garcia’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya and his company Golden Boy. Garcia is easily the promotions biggest star since Canelo cut ties with Oscar and the promotion. Interestingly enough a similar thing happened to Canelo whilst he was with Golden Boy failing 2 drugs tests testing positive for clenbuterol. Canelo denied any wrong doing however served a 6 month ban. So it wouldn’t be surprising if Garcia a big cash cow has a similar fate of serving the ban and continuing with his career.
We shall see what happens in due course but it does not look good for Ryan Garcia.
