Sam Alvey left the UFC in 2022 and has reflected on his time in the promotion. Alvey has no complaints about the treatment he got from the UFC. Fighters are always looking for victory however, some fighters end up on the end of a bad losing streak. Tony Ferguson and BJ Penn are tied with the most defeats in the promotion history with 7. However, with Tony Ferguson he is still currently signed to the promotion. This means he can take the unwanted record outright next time out.
It is, however, Alvey who has gone the longest without a victory going 9 UFC fights without victory. This record ended as Alvey left the company in 2022. While he has gone 9 fights without a victory he has kept these fights competitive. This is due to 2 of his fights ending in split-decision defeats and another as a split-decision draw.
Sam Alvey Speaks on Fighter Pay
The debate about fighter pay has been going on for a long while, however, Alvey spoke to Ultimate Punching and gave his thoughts on the matter. Looking back at his career with the UFC he believes he was always treated appropriately by the UFC. Alvey mentions this when he says
“The UFC pays us way more than we deserve,” Alvey told Ultimate Punching. “You have some of the superstars like the [Justin] Gaethje’s and the [Max] Holloway’s and the Jon Jones’, those guys get paid what they get paid. But most of the card gets paid way more than we’re worth.”
Max Holloway Received $600,000 After UFC 300
Sam Alvey’s comments come after a historical UFC 300 card which took place in Las Vegas last weekend. There had been calls for bonuses to be increased. Dana White would end up granting the fighter’s their wish. The bonus increased from $50,000 to $300,000. This was due to it being UFC 300. This is not the first time the UFC have done this as they increased the bonus for UFC 100 to $100,000. Max Holloway came away from that event with $600,000 after securing the fight of the night bonus as well as a performance bonus, Holloway was able to achieve this with a last-second knockout over Justin Gaethje. This fight was for Gathje’s BMF title.
Sam Alvey Has Had Success After UFC
Sam Alvey left the UFC in 2022 and was able to get back into the win column in May 2023. This was with a stoppage victory over Cameron Graham in the 3rd round due to punches from back mount. Since that victory, Alvey has moved over to Karate Combat and the former middleweight has moved into the heavyweight division.
During his current run in Karate Combat Alvey has been able to clinch the Karate Combat Heavyweight Title defeating Ross Levine by decision for the vacant title. Alvey first title defence however, didn’t go the way he would of liked. This is due to an accidental clash of heads made the fight turn into a no contest. Alvey took a flurry of shots from his opponent Antonio Arroyo in the 2nd round which forced the referee to stop the fight. However, after watching the reply, it became clear it was all set up after a clash of heads which rocked Alvey. This gave Arroyo his chance to finish the fight. The clash of heads made the fight turn to a no contest. This meant that Alvey would retain his Karate Combat title.
