The original main event of Cage Warriors 147 looks to have been put on hold. Scheduled for the event on November 20th, the Flyweight championship was on the line in the top-of-the-bill clash between Sam Creasey and Shajidul Haque. A rematch six years in the making. It looks like we will have to wait a little longer before we see the cage door close once again.
The Announcement
Current champion Sam Creasey has taken to his social media to announce the fight’s postponement. Here’s what the champ has to say.
“All those hoping to watch me compete this Sunday I’m sorry to say I’ve had to withdraw from the fight.Been fighting and losing a battle with [an] illness which I had hoped would pass in time for me to still compete, but I’m still nowhere healthy enough. Apologies to Shaj, his team and anyone else hoping to tune in to a great fight. I’m pushing to get this fight rebooked before the year’s out.”
It is unclear at this time how long Sam will be out, and what the promotion will do in the meantime. We wish the champion the speediest recovery. Hopefully, the fight can be remade as soon as both competitions are healthy as it’s one hell of a great fight.
Sam Creasey
The current champion was looking to put his second defence in the books with a win against Shaj. Most recently competing at Cage Warriors against Stipe Brčić. Defeating the Croatian fighter convincingly in the first round, the momentum was firmly behind Sam.
Looking to put his 2016 defeat to the same opponent behind him. This was a huge opportunity to prove how much he has improved as a fighter. Taking out a former foe on a massive stage.
Shajidul Haque
Looking to make a storybook return to the promotion. Shaj Haque has gone on an absolute tear since leaving in 2020. Putting together a four-fight winning streak, which saw him earn Almighty FC gold.
Most recently Shaj competed at Ares FC 8. During his time in France, he picked up a hard-fought victory over Samir Faiddine. In the books as a split decision win, it doesn’t do justice to Haque’s performance. As he was in control throughout.
Who are you backing in the rematch when it goes down?
