With British Fighting Championship’s event fast approaching on April 13th in Middlesbrough, all eyes are on Sam Hewitt as he gears up to face George Furner in the cage. Ahead of the highly anticipated bout, we caught up with Hewitt to discuss his preparations and thoughts leading into the fight.
“My preparation has been great. I’ve spent almost a year of consistent training since my last fight, plenty of jitz comps in between and spent 8 weeks in Thailand training at Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA so I’m feeling pretty good. Way better than I was last year,” Hewitt shared when asked about his preparation for the fight.
Assessing his opponent’s skill set, Hewitt expressed confidence in his abilities:
“Well, he’s got a good record, looks big, strong, explosive, and looks like he’s got a well-rounded game of striking and grappling. He’s taller than me, they always are and undefeated, pretty similar to my last opponent. I honestly think it’ll be a great matchup. I’ll play to my strengths, it’s hard to punch down. I don’t want to give away too much,” he commented.

Reflecting on potential weaknesses in Furner’s game, Hewitt maintained a focused approach:
“I don’t rely on my opponent having weakness, I’ve never met George, I’ve only seen some of his highlights. If there are any weaknesses, I’ll try to pick them up when I’m in the cage with him. For now, I’ll play to my strengths and work my game. I’m tenacious and ready to go. I’m sure he is too. It’ll be a great fight,” he stated.
When questioned about his general approach to the fight, Hewitt emphasized adaptability:
“Everyone’s got a plan but it can change in an instant as soon as hands start flying. So I have an idea of what I want to do, but if anything goes wrong I’m good at adapting quite quick if I need to change things. I’ll listen to my coach and do my best, and put on a show. That’s all I’ll say,” he explained.
Looking ahead to the outcome of the fight, Hewitt offered respect to his opponent:
“I respect every opponent I face. I’ve never met the guy or sparred with him. Both of us are just getting started as amateurs so it would be naive to predict rounds or methods of victory. He’s never lost like me so I know he’ll be hungry and competitive same as me. Bring the best version you can, George, all the best and let’s have an epic fight. May the best man win,” he concluded.
As anticipation builds for the clash between Hewitt and Furner, fans eagerly await the action that is sure to unfold in the cage. Do not miss this!
