Samurai Fighting Championships closed out its fourth instalment of events last night, here are the fights of the night!
Fights of the Night:
Matt Howarth vs Victor Yeo– Round one begins with some excellent striking from both fighters. Victor Yeo landed a great series of teeps and leg kicks, Howarth answered back with straight shots which backed Yeo up against the cage. Yeo displayed great takedown defence here, but Howarth persisted, ending round one in top position. Round two saw some more striking, but an urgency from both fighters to take the fight to the floor. Howarth takes Yeo down, this is soon reversed by Yeo and initiated excellent scrambling from both fighters for top position. Round 3 saw Yeo returning to his teeps, where he attacked the body multiple times. Howarth was visibly damaged by these shots. Round three ends in more grappling, where Howarth had more success. This fight would not look of place on a pro card. Both fighters showed high level IQ, and confidence in their game. Matt Howarth wins via unanimous decision to retain the SFC lightweight belt.
David Idemudia vs Iraj Montano- Round one begins with Iraj shooting for a double leg takedown right away. This is well defended by Idemudia, where he separates and lands some powerful shots. From here, Idemudia dominated the striking, landing some well timed punches. Just before round one ended, Montano makes a smooth entry for a single leg takedown. Round two begins in a similar way to the first. Idemudia defends a takedown attempt and lands powerful strikes which could be heard throughout the area. It was here where he knocked down Montano, with many thinking the bout was over. However, the referee allows the fight to continue. Montano is met with vicious, thudding ground and pound until the referee ultimately steps in. David Idemudia wins via round 2 TKO. This win was truly impressive as Idemudia displayed complete dominance, and ability to brutally end fights. As adds another win to his record, fans are eager to see what the Renegade fighter does next.
Kane Darcy vs Tommy Power- Kane Darcy squared off against Swansea’s own Tommy Power in an all Welsh clash for the welterweight strap. This fight did not disappoint. Tommy Power opens the round with some good striking, which is met by well timed counters Darcy. The two traded a variety of strikes, where they both looked comfortable. Darcy shoots for a double leg takedown which is well defended by Power, and they separate. Darcy lands a nice head kick, which is met by a stiff jab from Power. The round ends with both fighters looking confident. Round two begins with less striking as Darcy initiates some cage wrestling, which leads to a huge moment in the fight. Darcy picks Power up, walks over to his corner and gets a huge slam. It was here where Darcy fought to keep top position, and wear Power down. Power defends submission attempts well here, until a scramble leads to Darcy taking his back. It was here where a beautiful rear naked choke was sunk in by Darcy, which finished the fight. Kane Darcy wins via round two submission, retaining the welterweight belt. This win was highly impressive as Kane Darcy is touted as a submission specialist, but showed here that he is more than comfortable, and dominant in his striking.
Honourable mention
Josef Thomas vs Kyle Richards– An undefeated Josef Thomas came out strong in round one, landing clean strikes to start the round. This was answered by good counter shots by Richards followed by some cage wrestling initiated by Thomas. The fight is then taken to the floor by Thomas, but soon reversed where Richards secured Thomas in a crucifix position. Thomas escapes and regains top position to end the round. Round two begins with a takedown attempt from Richards, but well defended by Thomas. After a few moments striking, Richards enters again for a strong double leg takedown which is successful. He finds the crucifix position which is reversed by Thomas once again who gains top position. However, Richards sinks in a beautiful triangle choke, and rolls into a mounted triangle position where he finishes the fight with a flurry of punches. Kyle Richards wins via round 2 TKO. This win is particularly impressive as Thomas was undefeated heading into this bout. Richards showed patience and tenacity in order to get the win last night.
