With SFC concluded its third instalment last night. Here is a list of the fighters which made a name for themselves and proved they are ones to watch for the future.
Breakout Stars:
Liam Davies- SMMA’s own Liam Davies fought and won last night in impressive fashion. At just 19 years of age, he has eight MMA bouts under his belt. Competing in a mixture of promotions. Formerly on Meltdown, IMMAF, Cage Warriors Academy, Four Nations, and now SFC. Liam “the python” Davies represents his nickname wholeheartedly. Always hunting for a submission, specifically chokes. With four wins via rear naked choke and guillotine, opponents must be weary of his skills to find their neck. This keen grappler is destined to go far in his career, with the great team of SMMA behind him, Liam Davies is one to watch.
Morgan Rees- 4-0 undefeated, fighting out of the Mat Academy, Morgan Rees won his bout last night via rear naked choke. He showed dominant grappling skills and composure in the cage. His ability to adapt in difficult positions while maintaining control was very impressive. With three out of his four wins coming via submission, Rees is making a name for himself as a dangerous grappler in his division. He is early into his MMA career, but showing true potential to go far in the future. Morgan Rees is one to watch.
Josh Sinnet- Josh Sinnet looked to bounce back last night after a recent loss to Sam hill on SFC 2. Before this, he had an undefeated record of 4-0, winning all bouts via triangle choke. It was no mystery to guess what Sinnet’s plan was this time. He displayed some great striking fundamentals last night. However, he ultimately wanted this fight on the floor, and got exactly that. Sinnet finished his opponent via triangle choke. Adding a 5th win to his record. Future opponents must be cautious to take this young man down. Seemingly if you get him down, he will tap you out. Highly impressive to have five wins via the same submission. Josh Sinnet is one to watch.
Ciaran Coogan- Ciaran Coogan took on flyweight champ Befan Hall last night, winning here would be no easy feat. Coogan displayed great patience and counter attacks to Hall’s strategy. Coogan ended the fight submitting Befan. This was a highly impressive victory as Befan formerly held belts in two weight divisions, and won gold at last years four nations. Coogan showed himself to be a great all rounder here. Wherever the fight went, he had an answer. His record now stands at 7-1-1. Coogan is not looking to slow down and expressed a lot of interest in returning to SFC on the next show. This would be a treat for fans and anyone following the young Irish prospect. Ciaran Coogan is one to watch.
Kane Darcy- Kane Darcy is the most active member on this list, competing seven times last year in MMA alone. His current record stands at 9-6. He currently holds wins over two now professional fighters in Jordan Little and Lorenzo Parente, where he finished both via submission. Kane takes any fight he can and always turns up ready for fireworks. His striking is improving in each fight where he is displaying good attacks to set up his takedowns. Ultimately, Kane wants the fight on the floor where he usually dominates. Last night was no different, where he finished Draig fighter Cameron Brown via submission. Kane expressed his want to be active again this year which will only benefit his career going forward. Kane Darcy is one to watch.
Eoghan Masoliver- Eoghan Masoliver fought and captured bantamweight gold last night in impressive fashion. His striking and takedown defence was unmatched. He showed he is truly on another level than the rest and surely will be knocking on the door of the pro ranks soon. The Irishman’s record currently stands at 6-2. His performance last night sparked the attention of the whole crowd. Clinical striking, composure, excellent IQ, Masoliver has the ability to go all the way in this sport. He makes a dangerous matchup for any opponent. We look forward to seeing this young talent progress. Eoghan Masoliver is one to watch.
Ioan Thomas- At 18 years of age, Ioan Thomas is 7-0 undefeated and now the SFC Middleweight champ. The word prospect is an understatement. Ioan has been fighting men in MMA since the age of 15. Last year, he finished both fights in the first round. Ioan always brings a huge crowd, who show their support on fight night. Ioan began his MMA journey predominately wrestling, looking for ground and pound finishes. As he has matured in his game, his striking has become second to none. Ioan is now a dangerous all rounder. On the ground, he will look to rain down heavy blows or submit. On the feet, he will wear down his opponent with nasty striking combinations. Cage wrestling is no problem for him either, he usually wins those exchanges. The sky is truly the limit for the SMMA fighter. Ioan Thomas is one to watch.
With SFC 4 commencing in may, we are sure to see some familiar faces again. Along with more fighters hoping to make a name for themselves.
