Former UFC Welterweight champion Robbie Lawler will return to the cage in December at UFC 282. “Ruthless” Robbie will be faced with an extremely tough task in the form of Argentina’s Santiago Ponzinibbio.
Two men who have been well within the division’s top 15 for years. However, they both currently find themselves without a ranking. Two of the most entertaining Welterweights on the planet. This fight is a guaranteed banger. UFC 282 just went up a gear.
Santiago Ponzinibbio
One of the most underrated Welterweights of recent times. Santiago has some tremendous victories on his resume. After a long string of injuries, he is back and fighting regularly again.
Despite being on a two-fight losing streak he has only lost these narrowly. With both being split decisions that could have arguably gone either way. 28-6 overall as a pro he is as dangerous as they come. Having an astonishing 15 KO/TKO’s.
With wins over the likes of Sean Strickland, Gunnar Nelson and Neil Magny. Ponzinibbio has previously proved he is a top calibre fighter. Looking to return to winning ways and once again establish his place in the top ten. Expect a fired-up Ponzi come December.
Robbie Lawler
Across the cage for the Argentine will be MMA legend, Robbie Lawler. A name synonymous with violence every time “Ruthless” steps into the cage it is a fight worth watching. At 40, he’s earned an easy last few years of his career. However, ruthless by name ruthless by nature. As he continues to fight killers every time he enters the cage.
As a former champions, we could write a list as long as your arm about Robbie’s impressive performances. Looking to add another name to that list, the 29-16 professional certainly isn’t taking it easy.
A kill or be killed fighter. Lawler has one of the most violent highlight reels in the sport. Coming off a loss, he hopes a win against Ponzinibbio can cement his spot as a contender still.
The Fight
The word banger is perhaps overused in the world of MMA. However, in this fight banger would be an understatement. Two of the most entertaining fans are violent men in not only the weight but the sport. If this fight isn’t a blood bath everyone involved will be shocked.
Taking place on December 10th at UFC 282. There would have to be a pretty special fight to top this one for FOTN honours.
